Have you checked out what the developer at Harmony (One) are up to with cross-chain liquidity and cross-chain bridges? I think exactly what you are referring to with regard to all the different stand-alone blockchains to be able to seamlessly communicate with each other. Also, they are working with The Sandbox to enable this technology and functionality.
